Guatemala, The Peña Blanca Experience
The Peña Blanca Tin Set:
Explore the profound impact of variety and processing from a single, exceptional farm. This three-coffee set from Sal and Marielisa at Peña Blanca in Guatemala is a unique study in how these crucial variables shape the final cup.
Maragogype Washed: First, experience the classic, transparent expression of the giant 'elephant bean'. The washed process preserves this variety's quintessential character: a delicate, clean, and floral cup.
Maragogype Honey: Next, discover the power of processing. This is the exact same variety, but the honey process fundamentally transforms its profile, developing a heavier, rounded body and deep, sweet notes of ripe fruit.
Pacamara Washed: Finally, explore the influence of genetics. A prized hybrid of Maragogype and Pacas, the Pacamara delivers a powerful, complex cup defined by a bright, sparkling acidity and its own distinct wave of ripe fruit.
Together, these coffees offer a fascinating look at the artistry of production and the remarkable versatility of a single origin.
Coffee "C Market" Price - $4.14
Coffee is a globally traded commodity. As such, there is a market for trading coffee futures. This market price fluctuates based on many factors, but especially supply and demand. While, we do not buy many coffees based on the C Market, it does impact how coffee we purchase is priced.
Guilder's Price - $7.61
This is the final price we pay for this coffee. This includes any premiums we might pay to the producer to make sure they are receiving a sustainable margin. It also includes all of the logistics of moving the coffee from its place of origin to our roastery in the Alameda neighborhood of Portland, OR, USA.
