Guatemala, Canoguitas, Washed

Brown Sugar • Cherry • Bright

A community lot from Canoguitas, Huehuetenango, Guatemala where limestone soils, high mountain altitude, and dramatic swings between cold nights and hot days slow cherry maturation and concentrate flavor. This coffee brings together caturra, bourbon, and pacamara varieties from the father-daughter duo Alejandro Ramirez and America Perez, and Natanael Aguilar's family association. The final result is a blend of coffees that deepened a new purchasing commitment between this regional community and our importing partner, Shared Source.

Alejandro Ramirez and America Perez are a father-daughter duo. Alejandro’s father
worked as a laborer on coffee farms for twenty years before being able to purchase his own land; Alejandro purchased his first plots about 15 years ago, planting them with caturra and bourbon varieties. Over the years, he’s purchased more land, and has planted pacamara as well. Alejandro and America work alongside 10-12 other paid pickers on their farm. Their farm mostly has chalúm and grevillea shade trees, and they also grow corn and beans on the farm.

Natanael Aguilar farms around Canoguitas. Him and his sone Mynor have organized community members, friends, and family into a small association that has collectively warehoused coffee to offer to us. Natanael also works as a school teacher during the off season.
